Bad Kreuznach – 07th April 2021 – Meyer Optik Görlitz has launched its own photo competition. Until the end of May, participants can submit photographs taken with lenses from the Meyer universe and win attractive prizes. The winners will be announced at the end of June.
"We honor the history and tradition of Meyer Optik Görlitz and are pleased to start a first project, apart from the new lenses we are launching, in the context of the 125th anniversary with our photo contest," says Timo Heinze, Managing Director OPC Optics (owner of Meyer Optik Görlitz). "The initial foundation of Meyer Optik Görlitz (at that time as "Optisch-Mechanische Industrie-Anstalt Hugo Meyer & Co.") dates back to 01st April 1896. In the thus now more than 125 years there were many events and developments, that strongly influenced the company and partly made it disappear for some time. This year, in addition to the photo competition, there will also be one or two further actions or projects that will continue to fill Meyer Optik Görlitz with life again - so it remains exciting."
The photo contest in detail
As of today, interested parties can register for the anniversary competition at www.meyer-optik-goerlitz.com and submit their photographs. Apart from the anniversary, the competition has no special motto, so there are no limits to your creativity. The only requirement is that the photos must have been taken with lenses from the Meyer universe (Meyer historical, Pentacon, Meyer from 2014, Meyer from 2019). Multiple participation (max. 3 photographs per participant) is permitted. The best rated photograph will then be admitted to the final placement, so that each participant can only receive one placement.
What is the judging procedure?
After the closing date (31st May 2021), a first rough pre-selection by Meyer Optik will take place to release the photos for a public evaluation, from 07th - 21st June. The voting-website will be announced after the closing date. The community-votes will be weighted more heavily (55%) than those of the Meyer Optik Jury (45%). The results of Meyer Optik's first photo contest will be announced at the end of June.
The prizes
The winner of the competition will receive three lenses from the current Meyer Optik portfolio (free choice), as well as prize money of 300 euros. The second-place winner will receive two Meyer Optik lenses of their choice, plus 200 euros in prize money, and the third-place winner will receive one Meyer Optik lens of their choice, plus 100 euros in prize money. Places 4-15 will receive vouchers of varying values (detailed overview at www.meyer-optik-goerlitz.com). In addition, the top 15 will receive their respective photograph as a large-format Fine-Art-print. Thus, prizes with a total value of approx. 9,000 euros will be awarded.
